My idea of the perfect Sunday in Austin includes coffee sipping, vintage shopping, and some good patio hangs. I found the perfect, cozy spot to do all that and more! Friends & Neighbors in East Austin fulfills all of my Sunday good feels. This charming little bungalow is located off East Ceasar Chavez, one of Austin's most buzz worthy, up-and-coming hoods.
Friends & Neighbors owner, Jill Bradshaw, opened the doors to a new retail experience two years ago. Jill converted this East Austin home into a shop with rooms dedicated to unique goods, including a cafe, and a curated selection of vintage clothing hand chosen by Jill herself, along with specially chosen gifts from local vendors. She wanted a place for locals to come in regularly, hang out with friends, and feel at home. Thus the name.
Each room is like walking into a different scene. A record player is turning in the coffee shop blasting obscure indie rock, creating the perfect vibe for their vintage-furniture-clad lounge. The former bathroom is now filled with dreamy beauty products displayed as if they could be on your own counter. Racks of vintage clothing adorn the walls of a Moroccan themed room set with pattern rugs and a peacock chair in the corner. Textiles and linens fill the hallway leading to the tent-like, bohemian dressing rooms that make you feel as if you have stepped into a fantasy land. The back yard patio is an oasis with mismatched iron tables and chairs. Another part I love about this outdoor space is the stationed food truck, Cool Beans. Cool Beans serves up the finest of vegan Mexican cuisine by truck. Major plus for this Texas vegan.
Add Friends & Neighbors to your to-do list whether you are from Austin or making a trip soon. It is not a place to just pop-in to, it is a place to sit and stay a while. A place to make you fall back in love with Austin. I would recommend shopping on a Sunday to partake in their Sangria Sunday from 2-8...right when you need a break from the summer heat wave.
